Job Title / Role: Head of Plant – PharmaceuticalsEmployment Type: Full TimeAn indigenous pharmaceutical company is looking for Head of Plant to provide leadership, strategic direction, and tactical oversight to the facility, which includes all production operations and the related support functions directly or indirectly (Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain/ Warehousing, Procurement, Technical Services, Others). This Job is based in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria.Job Description Head of Plant1. Job SummaryThe successful candidate will coordinate and control production activities. Implements production plan/targets according to cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice). Supervises employees engage in manufacturing process and dispenses batches according to known standards.2. Duties2.1 Co-ordinates the planning and organization of the manufacturing process of the company.2.2 Implements Operational manuals, production plans and programs.2.3 Ensures conformance of manufacturing processes with organizational objectives and polices.2.4 Checks the availability of adequate raw and packing materials, utilities, filters and machine size parts.2.5 Fulfills the monthly and weekly production plans according to the schedule.2.6 Monitors drugs manufacturing activities in compliance with the requirements of cGMP.2.7 Ensures that all standard yield are maintained by production lines.2.8 Controls production process and production facilities.2.9 Ensures the general cleanliness and hygienic conditions of the plant.2.10 Ensures that all production equipments are maintained in good working order.2.11 Lead in pilot scale trials of products under development.2.12 Ensures that there is discipline and good working culture among the staff.2.13 Makes sure the on job training of production personnel.2.14 Ensures the hygienic condition of production personnel.2.15 Ensures production people wear mask, gloves and shoes before entering into production.2.16 Prepares daily reports.2.17 Performs other duties as assigned by the organization.3. Responsibility3.1 Responsible for any delay during daily as well as weekly work schedule.3.2 Decides either to reject or use by sorting non-conforming raw and packing materials discovered during the manufacturing process after discussing with other team involved.3.3 Takes decision about where engaging man power in absence of work.3.4 Responsible for planning of work according to weekly program.3.5 Coordinates all activities in the plant.3.6 Not responsible for cash.3.7 Responsible for materials issued from warehouse for manufacturing.3.8 Responsible to keep all confidential matters secret and protect the interest of the company. * Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations3.10 Increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards3.11 Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping3.12 Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results3.13 Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus3.14 Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions3.15 Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff3.16 Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime3.17 Commit to plant safety procedures3.18 Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets3.19 Address employees’ issues or grievances and administer collective bargaining agreements3.20 Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts3.21 Adequate assessment of the working condition of all production equipment3.22 Ensure the general cleanliness and hygienic conditions of the manufacturing areas and production personnel3.23 Supervise the job responsibilities of all production staff and ensure discipline and good working culture amongst them3.24 Prepares daily/weekly/monthly production reports indicating relevant KPIs4. Authority4.1 Authorized to recommend the promotion of his sub-ordinate staff members4.2 Authorized to write warning letter to his sub-ordinate staff members5. Efforts Required5.1 : High mental effort is required.5.2 : Requires a lot of high physical effort for monitoring various processing operations and for trouble shooting activities.5.3 : Requires a lot of visual efforts to accomplish documentation and other routine paper works.6. Working Conditions6.1 : Exposed to dust of different drugs, which cause allergic reactions as well as mental and physical fatigue.6.2 : Exposed to physical injury. .7. Requirements & Skills7.1 Proven work experience as a Plant Manager7.2 Proven managerial experience7.3 Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)7.4 Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry standard equipment and technical expertise7.5 Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, and inventory.7.6 Computer literacy is mandatory7.7 Ability to create accountability and to lead by example7.8 Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills7.9 Minimum of Bachelors degree, preferably in Pharmacy or any Medical related field, or in Engineering. Masters degree will be an advantage.7.10 15+ years leadership experience in a cGMP manufacturing environment of which 10+ years in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.7.11 A track record of accomplishment in prioritizing and planning production activites7.12 The ability to react well under pressure, to handle multiple competing projects or priorities under tight timelines or restrictions7.13 Demonstrated continuous improvement strategy and results in improving efficiency at plant level.7.14 Ability to manage multiple projects and achieve results through others.Method of ApplicationInterested and qualified candidates should send their CV and a one-page Cover Letter (stating why you qualify for the position) to:
