- Identify and understand the environmental issues that affect the Dangote Group, its products, suppliers, contractors and the wider industry.
- Establish the implications and develop appropriate plans to address these issues
- Responsible for establishing the environmental attributes of suppliers and products and ensuring that they meet Dangote's policy commitments and other relevant requirements including occasional supplier visits
- Work with other departments and functions (e.g. Sales, Corporate Services, merchandising etc.) to maximise commercial advantage from the environmental attributes of products and services
- Provide an appropriate level of help and advice to contractors and end-users, including regular customer visits
- In co-operation with Group Communications, create PR/communications in relation to the Group's environmental activities. Includes internal and external communications, e.g. articles/comment in the press, managing environmental content on the website, paper-based publications etc.
- Create and deliver environmental training for Dangote staff, contractors and others as appropriate.
- Other duties as may be required by the Group Chief HSSE & Sustainability.
- Working with HSSE & Sustainability Team to agree: Leading and Lagging KPIs that are suitable and enough for PMP EMA and globally aligned - Annual Improvement plans around HSSE - Track Leading and Lagging KPIs and report back to high level Operational Management, especially around Corrective Action management
- Provide strategic vision for the future of Dangote Group, outlining areas of weakness, ensuring action plans are in place, including involvement in and active encouragement of Capital Planning around HSE related improvements.
- Work closely with respective BUs to embed the appropriate Environmental Management Strategy.
- Ensure ongoing interaction with Group HSSE and other BUs HSE colleagues to ensure Group HSSE alignment and sharing of best practice and learning.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in science, engineering or environmental related discipline (advanced degree preferred)
- 8 - 10 years experience in Environment Management, of which 6 years should be in a supervisory capacity
- Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment or equivalent or an internationally recognised environmental professional body an added advantage
- Working knowledge of Environment Management Systems, Environmental Discharges, Incident Investigation, HSE Auditing Techniques etc.
- Commitment to continuous personal/professional development
- Experienced involvement with environmental issues
- Experience of dealing with the press and environmental groups (desirable)
- Knowledge of a broad range of environmental issues.
- Knowledge of the Manufacturing / Oil & Gas business structure and products (desirable)
- Good commercial understanding
- Ability to quickly research, absorb and communicate information related to an issue.
- Ability to deliver effective and confident presentations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to details
- Ability to work flexibly and outside standard hours when required
