  • The fleet manager is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing a company's fleet of vehicles. This includes ensuring compliance with regulations, managing vehicle maintenance schedules, optimizing fuel efficiency, overseeing driver safety, and implementing cost-saving measures.
  • The fleet manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of transportation-related activities within the organization.
Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance:
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for all vehicles in the fleet.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs with internal or external service providers.
  • Ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal:
  • Manage the procurement process for new vehicles, including vehicle selection, negotiation with suppliers, and acquisition.
  • Develop strategies for fleet expansion or reduction based on organizational needs and budget constraints.
  • Coordinate the disposal or sale of older vehicles, ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal regulations governing vehicle operation, safety, and emissions.
  • Ensure that all vehicles in the fleet comply with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.
Driver Management:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise drivers, ensuring they have the necessary qualifications and certifications.
  • Monitor driver behaviour, including adherence to safety protocols, driving habits, and compliance with company policies.
  • Implement driver training programs to promote safe driving practices and minimize accidents.
Cost Management:
  • Develop and manage the fleet budget, including vehicle acquisition costs, maintenance expenses, fuel costs, and insurance premiums.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, such as optimizing fuel efficiency, reducing idle time, and negotiating favourable terms with suppliers.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet operations to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
Technology Integration:
  • Evaluate and implement fleet management software systems to streamline operations, track vehicle performance, and monitor driver behaviour.
  • Leverage telematics and GPS technologies to optimize route planning, monitor vehicle location, and improve overall fleet efficiency.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in fleet management to identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation operations.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, GPS systems, and other relevant technologies.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, regulatory compliance, and safety standards.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
